Basic Requirements for a Canada Student Visa Application

Basic Requirements for a Canada Student Visa Application

Are you a student who is looking to study in Canada? OR Are you applying for a Canada student visa? Then, SIEC presents a short guidance on the basic requirements for Canada Student Visa Application.

Valid Passport

The most common and essential part of your study abroad process is a passport. If you don't own one, ensure to apply for it at least 9-12 months before so that you have a good amount of time to start your visa processing and stamping.

Attested copies of educational copies

Xerox copies of your educational certificates (10, 12th and degree) with your signature will be required.

Academic references

Reference letters let others speak for you. Typically, they are considered additional evidence of your abilities. A reference letter for academic purposes is known as an academic letter of recommendation. It's usually written for a student or recent graduate by a high school teacher, vocational instructor, counsellor, or college professor.

These letters are typically required when people apply to college or scholarships, special college programmes, internships, training programmes, fellowships, or visas.

Employer references

Employer reference is a letter from an employer which recommends an individual who worked for them in the past. Typically, this reference will include the below details:

  • The position you held.
  • The dates you worked for the company.
  • Overall job duties.
  • The name of the organization.
  • Your strengths and skills.
  • The former employer's contact information.

SOP (Statement of Purpose)

A Statement of Purpose, also referred to as an SOP, reflects your personality in front of the admission committee for getting enrolled in universities in Canada or abroad. This is your chance of impressing the committee by presenting your profile powerfully through an essay that describes your personality traits, which are not covered in your academic documents.

Certificates of extracurricular achievements

The certificates of your extracurricular activities, i.e. the activities apart from your school studies, will also be required.

An acceptance letter from your University

An acceptance letter is a letter you receive from universities informing you that you've been accepted into the school.

Proof of payment

The proof of payment of tuition fees is a document providing that you have paid your tuition fees. This can be requested from the University directly.

Proof of financial funds

All international applicants requesting Canada student visa eligibility documents must demonstrate that they have adequate financial resources to cover the cost of their education while in the country.

English Proficiency test results

When applying for a degree abroad, you will study English or another popular foreign language (German, French, etc.). For this reason, universities need to know that language will not be a barrier in your studies; you can understand and use that language at an academic level.
