New Eligibility Requirements for Canada Post Graduation Work Permit Program

As per the Updates on New Eligibility Requirements for Canada's Post-Graduation Work Permit Program, the country has announced new changes to its PSWP Program in its terms of eligibility requirements, effective from 1st November 2024.

According to Canada, the recent changes are to manage the number of temporary residents residing or arriving in Canada.

New Eligibility Requirements for Canada's Post-Graduation Work Permit Program

Applicants need to meet the following requirements under the new eligibility for Post-Graduation Work Permit for a graduate with a bachelor's degree, master's degree or doctoral degree are as follows:

Language requirement: For all four language sub-areas, you must show that you have at least a minimum level of Canadian Language Benchmarks CLB 7 for English or Niveaux de competence linguistique Canadians (NCLC 7) for French.

Field of study requirement: All fields of study are applicable, and there is no extra field of study requirement. This is a significant change from what used to be the eligible fields of study.

However, if you graduated from a college program or any other program not listed above, the following criteria apply:

Language Proficiency Requirement: All potential applicants shall be expected to demonstrate their command of either French or English and, in English, attain a minimum of CLB 7 level or reach NCLC level 7 in the case of French for all language areas. Before, level 5 was a requirement for both languages. This is a major alteration.

Additionally, one must show skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking, which are supported by test scores that are no older than 2 years from the date of application submission.

If you apply for the PGWP before November 1st, 2024, then you only have to meet the existing eligibility criteria, but if you are applying on or after November 1st, 2024, then you will have to meet the new eligibility criteria.
