How Many Years Does it Take to Study Engineering in Germany?

The amount of time that it takes to complete a Bachelor of Engineering programme in Germany ranges from 3 to 4 years depending on whether you take a full-time programme or not.

A course in the German language lasts for about 6 – 8 months before one can commence on their engineering major. In case it is required, a preparation course will take another year (if needed).

As stated by the general admission requirements for studying engineering in Germany are:

• A minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Non-EU/EEA candidates whose school-leaving certificate is not regarded in Germany should complete a one-year preparatory course (Studienkolleg).
• Completed preparatory course assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung).
• Proficiency in the German language, demonstrated through TestDAF or DSH exams, at least at the B1 level or higher.
