What career paths are open to international students in France?

The Campus France with the Verian Institute recently published the results of a survey of international students educated in France. The report highlighted the long-term benefits of studying in France, the importance of international education in France, and the importance of the link created with France.

A sample of respondents studied in France

The sample includes more than 10,000 alumni, most of them have completed their studies in France with scholarships in the last ten years. The sample consists of results from diverse geographies of 154 countries:

  • Sub-Saharan – 28 per cent
  • North America & Middle East – 21 per cent
  • Europe – 20 per cent
  • Americas – 18 per cent
  • Asia & Oceania – 12 per cent

Respondents include a majority of degree-seeking university students

The report published by Campus France includes a vast majority of overseas respondents who came to study in France to experience a world-class, and innovative international education:

  • 70 per cent of pursuing diploma programs in France
  • 12 per cent enrolled in joint degree programs
  • 2 out of 10 respondents came to study in France as a part of an academic exchange
  • Over a 3rd studied in France via the Erasmus+ Program

Let’s have a look at the diversity of respondents according to the program stream:

  • 7 out of 10 alumni studied in France at a French University, which comprises 68 per cent.
  • 2 out of 10 enrolled in French Engineering schools, which comprises 20 per cent.
  • 1 out of 10 studied in Business schools in France, that is 9 per cent.
  • 7 out of 10 respondents were enrolled at Master studies in France, which comprises a maximum of 69 per cent in total.

Career paths for International Students in France

Studying in France: What career paths are open to international students?

  • 1/3rd of alumni continued their education in France after getting a French graduate degree, and 96 percent declared French education was an asset for their further studies, cornering any streams.
  • Interestingly, 87 per cent found a job within a year of completing their studies in France, 73 per cent of which have secured a job within just 6 months)
  • 91 per cent said that their studies in France were an asset in helping them get their first job, and 88 per cent suggested their first job met their expectations in terms of salary.
  • Furthermore, 1 in every 2 respondents found their first job in France after completing their French education.

Studying in France opens the door to a Job-ready Career.

  • 80 per cent of the alumni reported that they currently work in an intellectual or managerial profession, much to what international students dream of a successful career in France.
  • This highlights that France is a preferable destination for international students willing to pursue a career in Business and Management, and Fashion & Design.

The report reveals that the French language centres the experience of studying in France

  • Studying in France increased international students’ French-speaking aptitudes.
  • Almost 80 per cent of alumni use the French language in their daily business and personal lives.
  • Nearly 9 among every 10 of them admit that it seems to be boosting their willingness to work with French people (88%) and more than eight say it enhances their desire to work French companies instead (85%).

96% of alumni are ambassadors for France recommending it for study (96%), 97% vacation, 85% work, and 82% living.

Conclusion

Results from the survey were released on the occasion of the 2nd world Alumni Day, under the theme: "French-speaking talent, global careers". This operation was initiated in the year 2023 by the ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
