  • The Cape Breton University (CBU) is a co-ed public undergraduate university located in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. The only post-secondary degree-granting institution within the Cape Breton Regional Municipality and on Cape Breton Island.
  • It was established on June 28, 1974, the College of Cape Breton (CCB), combining the Sydney Campus of St. F.X (Xavier College) and NSEIT into a single post-secondary institution under an autonomous Board of Governors. CCB became the University College of Cape Breton (UCCB), the first university college of its kind in Canada, later in 1982, the institute was granted the status of University.
  • Later, on February 25, 2005, the Board of Governors voted to rename the institution to Cape Breton University.
  • The University is sanctioned by the Cape Breton University Act passed by the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The University is also a member of Universities Canada, the association of Atlantic Universities (AAU), the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) and Colleges and Institute Canada (CIC).
  • The University is nested surrounded by impeccable natural landscape, vibrant culture and embracing communities; the University is home to around 5,500 students from across 40 countries around the globe.
  • The University is home to more than 3,500 international students out of the total students' population of 5,500, Cape Breton University is regarded as the second largest institute with the international student community of any maritime university.
  • CBU is known for its unique programs, such as the Bachelor of Health Sciences in Public Health and Master of Business Administration in Community Economic Development.

Entrance Scholarship
