  • Founded in 1870, Federation University (FedUni) is a public, dual-sector university based in Ballarat in Victoria, Australia.
  • In the year 2014, Monash University's Gippsland Campus was merged with University of Ballarat and thus, Federation University got its current name.
  • It is the fourth oldest tertiary education institution in Australia, with campuses at Ballarat, Brisbane, Berwick, Wimmera, and Gipsland. FedUni is popular for its research, and Sports Science research; it has received Shanghai Rankings between 101 to 150 in 2017.
  • Federation University enjoys the reputation of being regional Victoria's largest education institute, with campuses across Ballart, Berwick, Brisbane, Gippsland and the Wimmera. It houses approximately 1,300 staff dedicated to teaching excellence and student support.

Campus Locations

  • Mt Helen Campus (Ballarat), which is located 10 kilometres from the Ballarat city, offers both TAFE and higher education study options.
  • SMB Campus (Ballarat), with its historic buildings, dates back to 1870, focusses of TAFE vocational education, apprenteceships, skills training and prepatory courses. The Campus is also known for its state-of-the-art engineering and construction facilities as well as new classrooms and compter labs. SMB campus is located at Lydiard Street, South Ballarat.
  • Camp Street Campus of FedUni is popular as Arts Academy, and is situated in the heart of Ballarat. The programs here include both, VET as well as higher education levels. The vibrant arts and cultural environment is manifest with a mix of both, old as well as new buildings, and houses the popular for Helen Macpherson Smith Theatre and the Post Office Gallery.
  • Gippsland Campus is located in the town of Churchill, and is just 2 hours from Melbourne. The campus offers courses in Science, nursing, and midwifery labs are replete with the latest equipment. There are also a host of other facilities such as; liesure centre, golf course, art gallery, bistro and function areas.
  • Wimmera Campus is at Baillie Street, Horsham. The campus offers courses in undergraduate, postgraduate and research level study in education, nursing and business.One can find various facilities in the campus such as: a fully functional hairdressing salon, industry standard plumbing, automotive and building and construction workshops, art and design, nursing training facilities and computer training rooms.
  • Berwick Campus has been a part of FedUni ever since 2017, and is about 40km south east of the Melbourne CBD. To reach the campus, one has to take only a 5 minute walk from Berwick Station on the metropolitan Pakenham train line and is adjacent to the Princes Freeway. The buildings are surrounded by sprawling grounds, and reflect a modern architecturally-designed look.
  • Brisbane, Queensland Campus is at Level 5-7, 333 Ann St, Brisbane. Brisbane enjoys the reputation of one of the top-ranked lifestyle cities in the world, and is therefore, a major attraction for International students. One can enjoy year-round outdoor activities owing to the subtropical weather in the city.
  • FedUni's prestegious research centre - The Gerffrey Blainey ResearchCentre (GBRC), is named after the foundation Chancellor of the University of Ballarat (presently Federation University Australia) in recognition of his long and distinguished career in academic circles, and his generous donation of books. The Centre is located on the top floor of the E.J. Barker Library (Mt Helen Campus).
  • Some of the Collections at GBRC: the Geoffery Blainey Mining Collection, the Federation University Australia Special Collection, Federation University Australia Historical Collection, and a supervised reading room.
  • Federation University is home to more than 24,000 domestic and international students. It is also Australia's only regional multi-sector university offering higher education, research opportunities, technical and further education (TAFE) and secondary schooling
  • ATMC: Australian Technical & Management College (ATMC) provides a pathway for international students seeking higher education in the fields of Business and Management in Australia and abroad. FedUni, along with Charles Darwin University, ATMC offers VET, Diplomas, Bachelors and Master Degrees. ATMC is a registered training organization offering courses such as Business, Early Childhood Education and Care, Information Technology etc.

Scholarships

Federation University offers various Scholarships, prominent being:

International Excellence Scholarship -MBA: A scholarship of AUD 4544 isoffered to elligible International students, both, for undergraduate as well as postgraduate degree programs.

  • International Excellence Scholarship: For undergraduateand postgraduate programs; elligible students, are offered a scholarship equivalent of 16% of tution fees for duration of program.
  • Australia Awards: This scholarship is funded by the Australian Government and administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). It is offered to talented students and aims at developing leadership potential and cement lasting change by empowering a global network through quality education experiences in Australia and overseas.
  • Commencing International Student Accommodation Scholarship: This scholarship is sepcifically for international students who wish to study and stay at the Ballarat, Gippsland and Berwick campuses.
  • International returning residents discounts: current and returning students get a discount if they wish to reapply.
  • High Achievers Scholarship: A student gest a scholarship of $18,000 which also includes on year of on-campus accommodation. But for this, the student has to get an ATAR of 80+.
  • Occupational Therapy Student Accommodation Scholarship: This scholarship is offered by FedUni specifically to students at Gippsland Campus studying Occupational Therapy, whereby, they are eligible for an accommodation scholarship.
  • Henry Sutton PhD Scholarship: This is offeredfor research areas and discipline including engineering, IT, mathematics, science, geoscience etc. The scholarship includes a cash stipend of $12,500 AUD per annum (paid fortnightly) plus accommodation scholarship valued at $12,500 AUD per annum.The tuition and stipend, both, are provided for a period of three years. Along with this, the scholarship holders may also be offered paid teaching opportunities within the School.

Accomodation - On Campus

  • Ballarat residences: Residences available on campus as well as off campus; comfortable units, houses and apartments that include flexible catering and in room data that provides access to university network. Along with this, one also has an access to UniSports pool and gym.
  • Mt Helen: Peter Lalor is located at Mt Helen campus. Available facilities include single bedrooms with shared facilities. The units accommodate around 10 to 12 students (for each unit there is a kitchen/common area, two bathrooms, and single study bedrooms, along with Laundry facilities - either in the communal laundry room or in the units. There is also a central courtyard.
  • Mt Helen Campus also has the Bella Guerin Hall offering separate two-storey buildings, each accommodating 11 students with facilities such as shared kitchen, living and dining space and two bathrooms.
  • There is another place, known as Jemacra Place,which is very close to Mt Helen Campus. The place is ideal for students as it is close to public transport as well as a shopping Centre, chemist, butcher and post office. The student community at Jemacra Place comprises of 5 and 6 bedroom houses each with 2 bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, living, dining and laundry facilities.
  • Camp Street Campus: This lies in the heart of Ballarat. The apartments and ensuite studio rooms are just above the University's lecture halls, studios and galleries. The place is extremely close to restaurants, night clubs, shopping strips and cinema hall. The residences offer 4 bedroom units with fully equipped kitchen, laundry and common area.
  • Victoria Street Residence: The place is only 2.5 kilometers from the SMB/Camp Street Campuses and the CBD, along with proximity to public transport to the Mt Helen Campus. Victoria Street Residence is located right on the main entrance into Ballarat from Melbourne. It is a spacious, historic mansion, housing 6 students in large bed/study rooms with additional facilities such as self-catering kitchen, dining room, spacious TV room and laundry facilities.
  • While Victoria Street Hotel accommodates 12 students in large rooms with en suites, along with a self-catering kitchen and a communal area for students.
  • Gippsland Campus accommodation: Offers include spacious placesthat include fitness, recreation and entertainment, tennis and basketball courts, vegetable gardens, recreation halls etc.Halls of Residence complex has 2 buildings, with a total of 50 bedrooms. There is also an option of 3 bedroom layouts.
  • West Residences - provide fully furnished units, each with 6 private bedrooms and shared facilities.
  • North Residences - This is located adjacent to the main campus, and offers 2 room layout options (standard and ensuite). Facilities: shared common, fully equipped kitchen, lounge, bathroom and laundries.
