  • The National University of Singapore (NUS) was founded in 1905, as the Straits Settlements and Federated Malay States Government Medical School, and is a public research University, and oldest higher education institute in Singapore.
  • In 1980, with the Merger of University of Singapore and Nanyang University, the National University of Singapore was founded, in order to pool the resources from both institutions to form a single, stronger entity.
  • NUS is consistently ranked within the top 3 Universities in Asia – Pacific, and within the top 100 in the world.
  • NUS is regarded as a high-end research University, offering both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in sciences, medicine, dentistry, law, arts, social sciences, engineering, design and environment, music, and computing.

Student Services

UKM comprises of several student services and facilities that enrich the students experience on campus. This includes:

  • The Tun Seri Lanang Library; one of the biggest libraries in the country, with over 2 million volumes of books, journals, e-books, and e-journals. The library also includes many branches including a Law library, Malay World, and Civilisation Library.
  • Student Society; The University has several associations and organizations on campus that focus on student professional needs, sports, culture, social welfare and more
  • Student Health Centre offers a range of basic health and dental care to its students and families for a very small fee. You can arrange for consultations by walk-ins or by making prior appointments. If required, the health centre would make referrals to the UKM Medical Cetre in Cheras in a situation that may require ongoing treatment.
  • Sports and Recreation: UKM offers great sports facilities for students, including a fully serviced clubhouse with a gymnasium, seminar rooms, snooker tables, karaoke, tv, restaurant, and a pro-shop. The campus also has a Golf Club, an Olympic sized swimming pool, outdoor courts; including Tennis, Football, Basketball, Badminton, and a running track.

Campus Locations

  • NUS has three campus locations within Singapore in Kent Ridge, Bukit Timah, and Outram. The main campus is the Kent Ridge Campus, located in Southwest Singapore.
  • The Bukit Timah campus houses the Faculty of Law and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
  • The Outram campus houses the Duke-NUS Medical School; the post-graduate medical school.
  • University town houses the Yale-NUS College, which is the liberal arts college of the University.

Accomodation - On Campus

Undergraduates

The on-campus accommodation at NUS includes single rooms, double rooms, or shared 6-person apartments. All bedrooms come furnished with a bed, a wardrobe, desk, chair, and bookshelves.

The campus accommodation also has an online estate management office, which provides assistance after hours and assists on house rules, regulations and other assistance required.

Graduates

The On-Campus accommodation options for Graduate students at NUS includes single stand-alone rooms, as well as shared apartments with upto four other students.

All bedrooms come furnished with a bed, a wardrobe, desk, chair, bookshelves, bed linen, and pillows.

Scholarships and Financial aid

International students pursuing full-time studies at NUS have several options available with regards to getting financial aid, and scholarships that would help you cover a part of the course tuition fee. This includes:

  1. NUS Final aid package (Covers tuition fees, living fees, and hostel fees)

    All students enrolled at NUS as full-time undergraduates are eligible to be considered for this package. Both current and prospective students can apply.

    The package includes bursaries/grants and repayable loans that cover both the tuition fees and living expenses.

    Eligibility requirements

    • Applicant’s gross household income; includes the total monthly income of all members of the household; OR
    • Per Capita income
    • You should have been offered and not rejected an MOE Tuition Grant for your undergraduate studies. As an international student you must demonstrate that you have a per capita or monthly income of less than or equal to $1,200.

Scholarships

  1. ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship (AUS)

    The ASEAN undergraduate scholarship is awarded to outstanding students from ASEAN member countries, except Singapore. The scholarship covers tuition fees, after MOE tuition grant subsidy, as well as a $5,800 annual living allowance.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Be citizens of an ASEAN country, excluding Singapore
    • Demonstrate strong leadership skills and potential
    • Have a good extracurricular record
    • Have excellent high school results
    • Apply to study full-time as an undergraduate student at NUS 
  2. Science & Technology (S&T) Undergraduate Scholarship

    This scholarship is offered to outstanding students from Asian countries, except Singapore. The Scholarship covers tuition fees and other compulsory fees, after MOE tuition Grant subsidy. You also receive a one-time $200 settling-in allowance once enrolled, and a $6,000 annual living allowance. You will also receive an air ticket for passage from your home country to Singapore before the beginning of the course, and a return air ticket from Singapore to your home country at the end of the course.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Be citizens of an ASEAN country, excluding Singapore
    • Demonstrate strong leadership skills and potential
    • Have a good extracurricular record
    • Have excellent high school results
    • Apply to study full-time as an undergraduate student at NUS in one of the following programs; Computing, Engineering, or Science.
