  • University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) is a small, public University for research only, located in British Columbia, Canada.
  • The UNBC was established on 22nd June 1990, in response to a grass-roots movement lead by the Interior University Society, initially the university began in a small rented office offering limited courses. Later in 1992 and 1993 it was official opened by Queen Elizabeth II with approximately 1500 students.
  • University's main campus is nested in Prince George, British Columbia and the regional campus is located in the northern British Columbia in Prince Rupert, Terrace Quesnel and Fort St. John.
  • The University of Northern British Columbia ranks the number one university of its size in the primarily undergraduate category by Maclean's Magazine in 2015-2016.
  • The University was awarded the trademark for Canada's Green University in 2007 because of its northern latitude; also UNBC is a member of the University of the Arctic.
  • The University of Northern British Columbia made its debut on the distinguished Times Higher Education World University Ranking in 2017, UNBC ranks in the group of 801st to 1000th, making it the among the top 5% of post-secondary university in the world. The university was also featured in the Time Higher Education's Young University ranking.
