The University of South Australia or UniSA is a public research University in South Australia. UniSA was founded in 1991, with the merger of the South Australian Institute of Technology, the South Australian School of Mines and Industries, and the South Australian College of Advanced Education.

Uni Sa is a founding member of the Australian Technology Network of Universities and is the largest South Australian University, with an average annual student enrolment of 32,000+. UniSa is ranked within the world’s top 50 under 50 Universities by the QS world University Rankings, and #26 by the Times Higher Education University rankings.

The University has six campuses in South Australia, two main city campuses in Adelaide, two metropolitan campuses and two South Australian regional campuses. Every campus includes state-of the art facilities, with modern lecture halls, cutting-edge laboratories, libraries, and purpose-built spaces to stimulate real-life work environments.

Campus Locations

The University of South Australia has six campuses; two in Adelaide city centre, two metropolitan campuses and two campuses in regional SA.

UniSA has partnered with several private institutions overseas in Hong Kong, as well as several higher education institutions throughout Asia to offer offshore degree programs for students.

  • City East campus

    The City East campus is located next to the University of Adelaide and provides a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs for over 7,000 students each year. The campus houses UniSA’s Division of Health Sciences, Nursing and Midwifery, Pharmacy and Medical Sciences, Population Health and the Sanson Institute for Health Research.

    The campus additionally houses a new exercise physiology clinic, outdoor walkways, fully equipped gymnasium, authentic simulated hospital and health services, student lounges, a virtual environment radiation therapy suite, commercial kitchen and sensory laboratory, and a new outdoor plaza. The Basil Hetzel Building on campus comprises of biomechanical, pharmaceutical, and microbiological laboratory space.

    The campus is home to the Centre for English language in the University of South Australia (CELUSA) and the South Australian Institute of Business and Technology (SAIBT).

    The campus is strategically located next to a large shopping district, and some of Adelaide’s finest café’s, restaurants and bars.

  • City West Campus

    The City West campus is located in the West end of Adelaide city, and is home to Pridham Hall, featuring state of the art facilities, including a purpose-built amphitheatre, swimming pool, fully equipped fitness centre, and is frequently used for University graduations, exams, corporate events, cultural and sporting events.

    The campus is in proximity to many art galleries, live music venues, cafes and restaurants, as well as a short walk from the Adelaide Railway station and tram line.

    The campus comprises of several learning spaces, a contemporary art and design studio, moot court for law students, art galleries, Australia’s only architecture museum, a trading lab, post office, health and medical clinic, Cancer Research Institute, Legal advice clinic, Marketing clinic, The Anne and Gordon Samstag Museum of Art, Kerry Packer Civic Gallery, and modern lecture theatres.

    In 2018, the campus included a new addition, ‘Museum of Discovery’.

  • Magill Campus

    The Magill campus is located about 7kms from Adelaide CBD, on a beautiful grassland, surrounded by huge eucalyptus trees and a creek.

    The campus offers courses in psychology, education, humanities and social sciences, communication and media, public relations, journalism, and creative industries.

    Magill houses the purpose-built Samsung SMART School at UniSA, a gymnasium, sports field, swimming pool, language lab, psychology clinic, cognitive neuroscience laboratory, social work studios, theatre, tv, radio and sound editing studios, the Magill Allied Health clinic, journalism newsroom, and cafes for outdoor dining.

  • Mawson Lakes

    The Mawson Lakes campus is situated in Technology Park, amongst renowned engineering and tech companies, and houses several high-tech research institutes and centres, including the Future Industries Institute (FII). It is located only 20 minutes from the Adelaide CBD.

    The campus has several interactive spaces for leaning, CISCO networking labs, SA’s largest IT School, Sports centre, Drama centre, a planetarium, state-of-the-art Material and Minerals Science Learning and Research Hub, and the Engineering Science Research Institute.

    The Maswon Lakes campus offer courses in computing and IT, Engineering, Science, Civil aviation, Applied Science, Sports Science, E-commerce, and environmental studies programs.

  • Whyalla Campus

    The Wyalla campus offers courses in Nursing, Social work, Early Childhood Education, Primary Teaching, Engineering, and Foundation study programs.

    The campus includes a state-of-the-art Engineering Teaching and Learning Centre, a general-purpose engineering laboratory, 3D Design studio, engineering workshop, USASA offices, computer pools, and several learning spaces.

  • Mount Gambier

    The Mount Gambier campus offer undergraduate programs in nursing, social work, early childhood education, and foundation studies. The campus offers specialist facilities for its programs including treatment rooms modelled on the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Mount Gambier Hospital.

    The Mount Gambier Learning centre which was open in 2016 comprises of collaborative learning and teaching facilities.

    The campuses recently opened a Forest Products Innovation Hub, which played a key role in innovation, supporting research, collaboration, maintaining jobs, and making the Mount Gamier campus one of the main centres for forest-industry research in Australia.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

UniSA offers several scholarships for international students. This includes:

  • vice chancellor’s international excellence scholarship

    The scholarship will cover a total of 50% of the total tuition fee for a four-year, full time international student pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate course at UniSA.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • An international student with eligibility to pursue studies in Australia
    • Should not have accepted any other scholarship of financial aid from UniSA
    • Previous studies must demonstrate an equivalent of a High distinction average
    • Must meet minimum English language requirements of the course
    • All successful applicants must continue to maintain a GPA of 5/7 to continue receiving yearly scholarship payments
    • The scholarship payments can be received for up to a maximum of four years
  • international merit scholarship

    The International Merit Scholarship awards students with a 25% reduction in their total tuition fee for the first year of their selected study program for a maximum of two semester or upto eight courses.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Be a prospective international student and be eligible to study in Australia
    • Applied for and accepted into a full-time eligible Bachelor program or Masters by Coursework program at UniSA
    • Should not have accepted any other UniSA scholarship
    • Should have achieved at least a Credit average in previous studies completed, or have received a conditional offer upon completing an award with a credit average

  • Peer Assisted Study Sessions

    UniSA has a Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) program which us run by current UniSA students and offer free study sessions and guidance and first-hand experience in handling your chosen course.

  • Talk to a Learning Adviser

    Learning advisors at UniSA provide you with study and assignment assistance and help you to achieve your academic and professional goals, including writing essays, reports, managing tough workloads, adapting to university study, referencing, as well as help in developing your grammar and self-editing skills.

  • Studiosity

    Studiosity is an online resource that helps students with regards to courses and assignment and report writing. Using an online chat feature called “Connect Live”, you can get help from online advisors about assignment writing, referencing, math, accounting, statistics, economic, and more.
    Studiosity can also be used to get feedback on assignments, by uploading your assignments online and getting feedback on the assignment content, organization, structure, English and academic language, grammar, punctuation and referencing.

  • Study Help Pals

    Study Help PALS are UniSA student that work in conjunction with UniSA learning advisors to provide study help and support, in areas such as academic and assignment writing, study skills, referencing and more, through “drop-in” session on campus during study period 2 and 5.

Clubs and Societies

USASA is the University’s Student association, which coordinates and runs several cultural, social and academic clubs across the University campuses. UniSA has a range of clubs from sporting clubs; hockey, basketball, badminton, arts, performing arts, political clubs, and more.

Accomodation – On Campus

  • Urbanest

    Urbanest is located within close proximity to the University of South Australia and is easily reachable by public transport; train and tram stations.  It is close to the Rundle Mall shopping, as well as vibrant night life and diverse entertainment options.

    Urbanest offer several room types including:

    • Single Ensuite rooms in a 4,5 or 6-person apartment
    • Twin ensuites rooms in a 5-person apartment
    • Twin share studios with two single beds
    • Double ensuites rooms in a 4-person apartment
    • Large single bed studio standard
    • Large double bed studio kitchenette
    • Large double bed, large studio kitchenette

    All apartments are fully furnished, and fitted with central heating and air conditioning, unlimited wifi throughout the buildings, and a free uLife community support and engagement program for all residents.

    The apartment complexes are equipped with a gymnasium, study rooms, games rooms, iMac stations, BBQ facilities, laundry facilities and bike storage facilities.

  • Student Apartments

    UniSA offer student apartments and townhouses, with fully furnished single rooms, including a bed, desk, chair and wardrobe. The apartments offer a range of shared facilities including a kitchen, bathroom, living area and laundry facilities.

    A bond payment of 4 weeks rent would need to be paid before you can rent an apartment.

  • Residential Colleges

    UniSA has several Residential colleges located in North Adelaide, and offer accommodation, with fully furnished rooms, inclusive of a bed, desk, chair, telephone, wardrobe and catered meals.

    All residents will have online computer access to the University library, music rooms, sporting facilities and laundry facilities. The residential colleges at UniSA include:

  • Student Hostels

    UniSA provides affordable student accommodation in the form of student hostels. The hostels all include full-furnished single lockable rooms, with gas, water and electricity included in the rent. All hostels will offer shared facilities, including kitchens, recreating areas, bathrooms and laundry facilities.

    You would be required to pay a bond equivalent to two weeks rent in advance before you can rent.

    Student hostels at UniSa include:

    • Alexandra Lodge located close to the city and offer short term rates as well
    • Elm Tree Lodge – includes ensuite single rooms and offer short term rates.
