About

  • Queensland is the second-largest state in Australia, with a total area of 1.7 million square kilometres located in the northeastern corner of the country.
  • It shares its land borders with New South Wales to the south, Northern Territory to the west and Southern Australia to the southwest, the state is surrounded by coral sea to the north east.

  • Queensland's population is over 4.7 million people, with a majority of the population residing outside the capital city

Geography

  • Queensland is made up of tropical islands, sandy beaches, flat river plains, dry desert lands, rich agricultural belts and densely populated urban areas.
  • The most note-worthy geographical feature of Queensland is the Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest coral reef system, made up of over 2,800 individual reefs, stretching over 2000 km with an area of 133,000 square miles. Located in the Coral Sea, the Great Barrier Reef is the biggest structure in the world, made by living organisms.
  • Fraser Island is one of Australia's natural heritage sites, containing half of the world's dune lakes and is the largest sand island in the world, located just off the coast of Queensland.
  • The highest point in Queensland is Mount Bartle Frere at 5,321 ft and the lowest point is the Pacific Ocean.

Healthcare

  • Medicare funds healthcare is primarily for Australian PR holders and Citizens. In Australia, Medicare is a government-run medical scheme, operated by Medicare Australia, which is the primary health care funded in Australia and covers 70% of the healthcare costs of an individual.
